At Whitewater, we've been encouraging earmarked giving for some time, with the famous Water Buffalo movie marking one significant signpost along the way.

The Water Buffalo movie is the product of a donor discovering a Christmas virtual gift was not going to result in an actual water buffalo being given to an actual family in China -- so they did it themselves. And they filmed the simple, emotional story so the donors (and everyone else) were able to see the water buffalo they bought and the family whose lives were changed because of it.

The water buffalo movie showed us how good giving can be and how good (and real, and concrete, and immediate, and uncontrived) reporting back to donors can be.

Earmarked giving also informed the design of the SolarAid site, where donors can give to a particular project and follow the each project's blog.

What is this blog all about?

If you're serious about raising money from donors, you need to get serious about donors. More than ever before, donors are insisting that you share power with them, not treating them like passive ATMs. This blog is about the ways you can do that -- and the rewards that await you and your donors when you do.
