I'm confused. Are you holding this up as a good example of a non-profit ad or a bad one?

Sandy Rees

I'm not impressed. I don't think this is funny and it's a little confusing.

I worked for my local Food Bank for 5 years as Director of Development and we had some really wonderful videos produced by the Ad Council and distributed through America's Second Harvest to us. The message was powerful and clear, and we used the videos often to tell our story with great success.

My opinion, but I don't think you're going to get that kind of result with this video.

Hi Jeff,

Having read your posts about stupid nonprofit ads, I'm hesitant to point you to our site: http://www.wondercafe.ca/ and ask you to click on the link to the Ad Campaign, but nothing ventured, nothing gained! I wasn't a part of the campaign, but I was impressed by it and the way it achieved national media attention. The goal in this case was to raise awareness and get people to come to the web site, rather than to raise money.

okay, good video, but shouldn't there be a call to action, in addition to the "call to inaction"?

If you're serious about raising money from donors, you need to get serious about donors. More than ever before, donors are insisting that you share power with them, not treating them like passive ATMs. This blog is about the ways you can do that -- and the rewards that await you and your donors when you do.

DonorPower Blog is penned by Greg Fox. Greg has spent 25 years in the DM industry — 22 in direct fundraising, and 3 doodling on the back of campaign analysis spreadsheets. Greg is ably assisted from time to time by a police line-up of guest “artists”, DM pros all, who like to pose as blogatorialists when the sun goes down. You can reach this blog at

A great partner for the nonprofit that wants to get donor-powered and grow revenue like crazy!
