You can put an awful lot of stuff in an email. And it won't cost you. No paper, no ink, no postage. So why not just keep adding stuff to those emails?

Email is still the "killer app" as far as I am concerned.

Totally agree. Even friends, staff, board members, vlunteers, etc will respond to e-mail quicker if they are kept simple. Nobody has time to read long e-mails.
